I love kidmin. It really brings out my geeky side. I enjoy dressing up like and creating props for 80s & 90s arcade games & characters, comic book superheroes, and animated characters from Pixar movies...it's definitely not for everyone, but I am so blessed to be serving God in children's ministry. We break all the "rules". We run, jump, shout, get a little loud and make messes, but we do it all in the name of the great and awesome God we love.
As much as I like all of the high energy fun, some of the sweetest and most rewarding moments of children's ministry (to me) are during the altar call and gathered around the altar praying. I forget about the sleep deprivation and the time I spend away from my family as soon as I see those little hands being raised during the altar call. Kids come down one by one to pray for everything from a terminally ill family member to a papercut. Without asking, the kids file in behind their friends, lay hands on them, and pray for them. Sometimes we stomp the devil, sometimes we gather together and hold hands while we pray, but we always, always, always lift our hands and praise the Lord. If you've never experienced the Holy Spirit moving in a children's church service, you are truly missing a life changing blessing. It's what keeps me coming back despite the exhaustion and sacrafices. I'm so honored, blessed, and deeply humbled to be a vessel for God to use in the lives of children.
