Kidmin Space on a Budget: Day 1

Here are a few pictures of our first day. We worked 12 hours on the project and only have a few things left to do tomorrow. Our church's kidmin budget is pretty modest, so for the budget and with only two adults and a preteen doing all of the work, I think it turned out really awesome! Honestly, it is better than I imagined.

Incase I don't get the time to post the finished product, we were a piece of pegboard short, we have to finish the puppet stage, and we will still need to put up the lights and a few extra props like perhaps a barrel and a little bit of caution tape.

The lumber yard we purchased our wood from didn't give us the best wood, so in the places where it looks like things are sagging or leaning, it's just because some of the pieces of wood are bowed out.

Altogether the project has cost about $320.

Kidmin Space on a Budget

We are hoping to build a low budget space in our fellowship hall. We also share the space with the youth, so we wanted to stick with a modern/contemporary theme both ministries will be able to utilize and enjoy.

Our plan is to create a industrial type theme with faux steel scaffolding, a puppet stage built to look like a large wooden crate, and another faux crate to frame the screen. I'll try to post photos of our progress.

We painted the peg boards a medium gray color in satin called Fired Steel from Walmart's selection. It only took three coats to keep the paneling from showing through and looks better than I imagined. Constructing the faux scaffolding took approximately three hours for my husband and one of the youth helpers to complete. It also is much cooler and far more sturdy than I was expecting.

ANGER DANGER FINALE: DIY AB Nest with Prize Eggs

Fortunately, our finale was the week after Valentine's Day. We walked in Dollar Tree to buy a bag of marshmellows for King Pig game and noticed they were stocking their shelves with Easter Eggs and candy. We purchased a few packs of paisley colored eggs, a small round wicker basket, one fake brown looking bag of grass (in the floral section). We filled the eggs with candy left over from Valentine's Day and placed the eggs in the wicker basket. Later we added the brown faux grass (not shown in photo).

After the kids found their Power Verse (memory verse) in their Bible, they were allowed to get an egg out of the "Angry Birds' nest". They were so excited!
